Salomon

Trail-first: grip, protection and precision on technical ground

Salomon is a mountain brand that happens to sell road shoes. Its strength is a locked-down fit and aggressive outsoles designed for terrain where slipping matters more than a couple of grams.

The technology

Contagrip
Salomon's in-house rubber, tuned per model — MA for mixed terrain, TA for hard ground. Lug depth ranges from 3.5 mm on the Sense Ride to 6 mm on the Speedcross.
Quicklace / SensiFit
A one-pull lace system with wings that wrap the midfoot — the reason Salomons feel so secure on off-camber descents.
Energy Surge / Energy Foam
The current midsole family, considerably softer and more resilient than the firm EVA that defined earlier Salomons.
Energy Blade
A propulsive plate in the S/LAB and Genesis line for stiffness over rough ground.

Fit & sizing

Snug, low-volume and performance-oriented. Many trail runners size up half a size for descents and swelling.

Who it suits

Technical trail, mud, mountain races, and anyone who values grip and foothold above cushioning.

Worth knowing

Narrow through the forefoot, and the road line is not a strong point.

Best Salomon for each run

Picked from the current line by the same spec-based scoring the matcher uses — no sponsorships, no commissions.
